The following pattern is totally free and is recommended for beginner levels.
Scrubby Square
Level: Beginner
Primary Stitch used: Cobblestone Stitch
Supplies:
- 5mm hook (H or 8)
- Cotton yarn (weight medium 4)
- I typically use the brand “Peaches & Creme”
OR
- Polyester “scrubby” yarn (weight medium 4)
- I use the “Scrubby” yarn by Red Heart
Abbreviations:
Ch = chain
St(s) = stitch(es)
Yo = yarn over
lp(s) = Loop(s)
Sc = single crochet
(Insert hook into indicated stitch. Yo, pull back through stitch. Yo, pull through 2 lps.)
Tr = treble crochet
(Yo 2 times. Insert hook into indicated stitch. Yo, pull back through stitch. Yo, pull through 2 lps one time. Yo, pull through 2 lps a second time. Yo, pull through 2 lps a third time.)
Directions:
Begin: create a slip knot, then ch 9. Ch 1 additional then turn (10 ch total)
Row 1:
-Sc in the 2nd ch from hook, then Sc across the row (9 Sc total)
-Ch 1 then turn.
Row 2: (This row will alternate Sc and Tr until you end up with 4 “bumps” across)
-Sc in the 2nd ch from hook. Tr, Sc, Tr, Sc, Tr, Sc, Tr, Sc.
-Ch 1 then turn
Rows 3-8:
-Repeat directions for row 1 and row 2 alternatingly until you end up with 4x4 “bumps” created from the cobblestone stitch
Row 9:
-Sc in the 2nd ch from hook, then Sc across the row (9 total)
-tie off, snip, and weave in the loose yarn
